Joe Budden Crowns OutKast Greatest Rap Group Of All Time

Joe Budden has crowned OutKast the greatest rap group of all time in a tell-all interview with Drink Champs, giving the Atlanta group G.O.A.T. status over New York’s Mobb Deep.

Budden was asked to choose between Mobb Deep or OutKast during a routine segment on N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN’s podcast, in which the guest must choose one or opt for a shot.

“OutKast is the greatest group of all time but I’m from New York,” Budden said around the 70-minute mark. “I’m from New York, I mean but OutKast is better than Mob Deep. I’m not gonna be on camera saying otherwise. But Queens, Mobb Deep rest in peace Prodigy.”

Check out Budden’s appearance on Drink Champs below:

Budden is far from the only one to show G.O.A.T.-level love for OutKast. Atlanta rap fans were up in arms in 2021 after MyMixtapez posted a Mt. Rushmore meme on Twitter featuring the “G.O.A.T.S. Of Atlanta” and appeared to omit OutKast, Gucci Mane and Young Thug in favor of Jeezy, Future, Rich Homie Quan and Lil Baby

Among the first comments was: “No Young Thug or Outkast? Delete the whole shit.”

Macklemore also recently showed love to OutKast in his music video for “Maniac” last year, which found the Grammy-winning rapper donning a lime green suit and paying homage to some of Andre’s jittery dance moves seen in OutKast’s “Hey Ya!” music video.

Elsewhere in his sit-down with Drink Champs, Joe Budden spoke on the long-standing rumor that JAY-Z once said he’d hop on a remix of Budden’s 2003 hit “Pump It Up” if the former Slaughterhouse MC paid him $250,000. He said he couldn’t confirm or deny the rumor.

“That’s the rumor. That’s a rumor,” Budden said around the 5:30 mark. “I didn’t personally ask him. I couldn’t personally speak to him,” he continued, revealing that it was A&R Skane who reached out to Jay in hopes of snagging a verse.

“I just know that I don’t have 250 grand,” he said, before mentioning Webb, an executive producer of his 2003 self-titled debut studio album. “I think Webb put the battery in my back. [He said], ‘You gon’ let him do that? Nah, you gotta get to the studio right now!’”

    1. I can’t argue against that. 5 classic albums, 3 of them flawless. Put the south more on the map than anyone else. Completely changed the sound. of what hip hop could be. I loved Mobb Deep, but there is no comparing the two.

      1. You’re being a bit generous with 5 classic LPs.. thats all but 1 of theirs (I’m guessing you mean Idlewild not one of these 5).. I’d say 3 (the first 3, naturally). Stankonia is good but not quite classic, and the double LP of their solos I dont even count as a group album, since it isnt, other than in name. Also good, but not classic, and I aint talking about numbers and/or awards. That said, they’re absolutely a top 5 hip-hop group of all time. Neck and neck with Mobb Deep, can make an argument for either. But Tribe to me is the #1 hip-hop group of all time. De La and Wu would be the other 2 in my top 5.

    2. I like outkast but longevity can’t be in your criteria if you have them as the greatest. 3k hasn’t made anything consistent in like 16 years. He gets a pass that no one else gets and then he puts out a mediocre verse and people over hype it. Its crazy how some people take issue with these men rappers that wear finger nail polish, women clothing for feminization, but its different when 3k does it I guess

    3. I’ll take Wu and Bone Thugs. Love they group albums and then sometimes you can get good quality stuff
      from their solo’s

    4. I hate Joe but I’m not mad at this. They are one of the few groups to successfully reinvent themselves with each album. ATLiens is my favorite album from them but Aquemini is really the album where they mastered their craft. They’re not my favorite group, but its hard to argue against Kast.

    5. Wu Tang is the greatest group ever assembled and it’s not even that close. Outkast is dope but they aren’t on Wu’s level. I’d also take Mobb Deep as a duo over Outkast.

    6. Bone Thugs N Harmony, Wu Tang, De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest best groups. The best Duo are Ugk, Mobb Deep, Epmd and 8ball and Mjg

    7. EPMD
      MOB
      Quest

    10. 1. Wu Tang 2. Public Enemy 3. Cypress Hill 4. EPMD 5. Eric B. and Rakim 6. Run DMC. 7. Mobb Deep 8. Cannibal Ox 9. A Tribe Called Quest 10. Black Moon Bonus: Czarface

    11. Best groups ever is between Bone Thugs N Harmony and Wu Tang Clan imo. Both groups were they two biggest during the golden age and they Both are still around to this day putting in work. Wu the most lyrical and Bone the best flow and ability to do melodies/harmony I will say I wasn’t a huge fan of neither of they’re production. Those two groups are like hip hop Beatles and Rolling Stones

    12. Best group to me was always bone thugs n harmony based off classic collabs, great albums, classic singles, tours, record sales.
It’s tough for a five man group to be doing things together after nearly 30 years, no other rap group that has 3, 4, 5 members have lasted with all members still around ,due to break up or just unfortunate events.
