Jay Z Removes Solo Discography From Spotify

The streaming wars intensify as Jay Z makes a move to push fans toward his TIDAL platform and removes his entire solo discography from Spotify.

In a statement to The Verge, Spotify said the music was removed ““at the request of the artist.”

The report also said that Hov had removed his catalog from Apple Music, but many of Jay’s albums remain on the competitor’s platform, including The Black AlbumVol. 2… Hard Knock Life, Vol. 3: Life and Times of S. Carter, Kingdom Come and his last solo LP, 2013’s Magna Carta… Holy Grail.

Jigga had previously removed his debut album, Reasonable Doubtfrom Spotify in 2015 shortly after announcing his acquisition of TIDAL in a star-studded press conference. A year later, he pulled the Blueprint trilogy from the rival and the newly-founded Apple Music.

Jay is reportedly working on new music and has been seen in the studio with Zaytoven and Rick Ross. Read “What Will Jay Z’s Next Album Sound Like?” for nine theories of what to expect from Hov’s new LP.

    1. I use rhapsody. I was listening to reasonable doubt on it just yesterday. If that gets removed I’ll be pissed, but I won’t switch to tidal just for one artist’s music, in fact I’d say this is poorly calculated and based on the assumption that most fans will pay twice as much for a subscription just to hear Jay-z songs. Any fan that devoted probably has all his CDs already.

      1. Tidal dope af. I can clearly listen to any new album that comes out. Or take a trip back and listen to old classics. I can watch concerts, shows, videos, interviews all I want for 10 bucks a month. But I get it not everyone has ten whole extra dollars a month. Lol, hard out here for u huh pimp?

        1. i can do that without paying one fucking cent and i keep the music for any moment without internet connection

          1. “and i keep the music for any moment without internet connection”……….you do know that you can do that on Spotify too?

        2. Nope. I got Spotify bitch which is why I am upset. Fuck you and fuck Tidal.

      1. Ikr 670 million dollar net worth . But yeah Jay ain’t really doing nothing out here huh? What your net worth looking like? If it’s not more than 670 mill. Go ahead be humble and sit Yo asz down.

        1. You sound like one of those guys willing to do anything for money and I mean anything. Jay Z ain’t shit but a corporate puppet, you to stupid to realize non of those numbers are real, they put them out their people like you that get impressed by it. Can you spend his money???? No so you should prob sit your ass down too then.

          1. When a white man becomes successful he’s a smart business man. When a black man does it. He’s a puppet and apart of a cult. Mfers can’t even celebrate another brother’s success without mfers calling him a D-rider.

    2. I think it’s important to believe in yourself but I don’t think people that stream music care where Jay Z catalog is, they aren’t streaming Jay Z catalog enough to move the needle towards one streaming service or another. Most of Jay Z’s fans already have a physical copy or mp3 of his music.

    3. Any true Hov fan should already have his CDs. I don’t see what difference this makes, it only affects the people who stream music more than they buy CDs.

        1. No, Jay has made it illegal to own the CDs. If you try to play one now all you hear is the Amil album.

      1. It’s great having CDs, but I only see them as collector items or as a hard copy if the world ends. Seriously who wants to carry a bulky ass goofy looking “CD player” when out walking or going to the gym etc,? Does anyone even make portable CD players anymore? Plus having to leave them in your car……nah fuck that, I’ll stream or download any day.

    4. If Jay-Z aka the most overrated rapper in history thinks people will switch to Tidal just to listen to his below average discography he is dead wrong. Everybody already has Blueprint and Reasonable Doubt, wheter it’s vinyl, CD, or a bootleg… feel free to torrent the shit outta Kingdom Come and the rest of that trash.

      1. Most overrated rapper in history is Eminem. Nobody has had a better career of calling ppl F@gg⊙ts, hating his mom and himself. The guy raps dumb fart poot pill head bars, that the burbs ate up. Em hands down the most overrated rapper in history.

      2. People will get on here and talk shit about Jay-Z…. yet they are mad that he is taking HIS OWN music and making it exclusive to HIS OWN streaming service… LMAO… why the fuck y’all mad if you don’t like his music??? lol… go make your own music, get your own streaming service and then give it to apple, spotify, tidal and your own shit if that’s what you wanna do….

    5. Jay Z’s entire career was profited off of Biggie’s and 2pac’s death. For one Jay Z would’ve never overshadowed Biggie in the NY rap scene. Then 2pac truly hated Jay Z, he would destroyed any momentum Jay Z had worse than 50 did to Ja Rule. I guess I’m the -1% that doesn’t think Jay Z has any good songs nor is a rap legend in my book, so go ahead and call me hater then. I’ve bought 100’s of CDs since he inception of CDs, I have over 2,500 songs on Apple Music and I can assure you I don’t a have a single song or album of Jay Z.

      1. If you don’t understand why Jay-Z is a phenomenal artist, you either haven’t listened to a lot of his work or your don’t understand hip-hop. Also this whole “if” Biggie and Pac shit that people are always talking about is a moot point. Jay-Z is his own boss. Big and Pac were workers (no offense, they are still GOATS). That’s why Jay-Z can say fuck all you bitch ass leeching streaming services trying to capitalize off me when I own my own shit. I can’t wait until he convinces Beyonce and Rihanna and those big artists to start doing the same to show these corporations that want to monopolize everything that we too can own our own shit.

        1. 2Pac & Biggie didn’t live long enough to be become bosses. “IF” they were still alive you can best bet they own the industry and have taken hip hop to higher level than it is today, and Jay Z wouldn’t be as “phenomenonal” as he is today. BTW I’ve been listening to hip hop since I was a young boy in the mid 80’s. I completely understand the what Jay Z is about, that’s why I wouldn’t spend a penny on his self manipulated career.

          1. Right, Jay-Z wasn’t as big as Pac (no pun intended) or Big when he first came out… but you know what the difference was? He has been a boss from Day One. Which is why nothing Big or Pac did would’ve affected him. It’s like saying Pac would’ve stopped Master P from becoming a mogul. Jay was self made. Nothing those dudes did could stop him because he was living the life they were rapping about in real life from way before he started rapping.

    6. This is what a boss does. You mutha fuckas in the comments mad because you are workers…. your daddy is a worker, your granny was a worker, your whole bloodline are workers, your kids will be workers, every single descendant of yours will be workers and you will never understand what it is to own your own shit and not let anyone else monopolize your shit after you bossed yourself up.

        1. Actually, I am a boss. I own my own business and I work for myself. I haven’t worked for anyone else in 6 years.
Bitch. Your response essentially solidifies my point. You silly mutha fuckas rather have an issue with a boss than boss up yourself. Instead of acknowledging the lesson, you choose to attack the messenger. Why? Because you will forever be a worker. Meanwhile Jay-Z will go down in history as one of the greatest business minds of all time…

    7. I get it but damn. Couldn’t load up magna carta. Can I get Tidal on my ps4, my lg tv, stream right from my gear 3, beam it to my audio chromecast, load it up in groovr, or my chevy in dash. Nope. Damn Jay. Peace bro.

    8. Just don’t buy into Tidal or listen to music – easy as that, people. I’m a Spotify user, so if someone doesn’t put their work on there or makes it extra difficult to listen to (like through YT), then I’m not listening. Or I might just download it, but sometimes I don’t even bother with that.

    9. All I wanna know is where is the ‘Fuck Queensbridge’ guy? I thought he’d be all over this comment section with this kind of headline….

      1. He’s probably the same guy as “Jordan Face” aka “w1se wh1te man” and whatever it was before that. Half the time it’s most likely him debating with himself in the comments “fuck nas “…”fuck jay z”

    10. Tidal still a thing?

      Fuck no, never was.

Jay moving his shit out of Spotify is doing Spotify users a service.

    11. Jay can never be on top when Universal is his Daddy. He make them money forever. Hahahah. Never Indy for you Mr. Z

    12. Global Elitist Pedophile Supporter Jay-Z can keep his shitty music. He would have had a decent discography had he stayed retired…
