Iggy Azalea Responds To Q-Tip’s Tweets, Calls Them “Patronizing”

Days after rapper/producer Q-Tip gave fellow artist Iggy Azalea a lesson on Hip Hop via Twitter, the Aussie musician has responded to the former A Tribe Called Quest frontman’s series of tweets.

Azalea began her response by thanking both Lupe Fiasco and will.i.am for defending her. She didn’t refer to Q-Tip by name, but appears to speak on his comments directly when she stated that she finds it “patronizing to assume i have no knowledge of something I’m influenced by, but I’ve also grown up with strangers assuming that.”

Over the weekend, Q-Tip directed nearly two dozen tweets, which touched on Hip Hop history and cultural appropriation, at Iggy Azalea.

In Iggy’s response, which she made yesterday (December 22), she explained that she has no desire “to sit on twitter & play hip hop squares with strangers to somehow prove i deserve to be a fan of or influenced by hiphop.”

And at one point in her Twitter response, Iggy commented on releasing what she referred to as “pop rap albums.”

Q-Tip’s Twitter history lesson shortly followed an interview Azealia Banks took part in with Hot 97 late last week. During her interview with the radio station, Banks accused Azalea of “cultural smudging” and once again referred to T.I. as a “shoeshining coon.”

Iggy Azalea’s full Twitter response can be found at Watchcloud.com.

    1. Fatuous cunnt.

Without black cock gaping and patronizing, she’d be nowhere, except back in Australia waiting tables.

Oh wait, she was so ‘intelligent’ really she’d have gone to University to study marine biology, right.

    2. this bitch is such a fuckin narcissist, all she cares is about herself. she’s fuckin scum, i bet tip is shakin his head daily thinking, da fuq did i do.

      1. she got irrelevant niggas be coming out the woodwork to attack her everyday for nothing, so now she responds and shes suddenly a narcissist? what about the guy trying to give a history lesson to someone who didn’t ask for one.

      2. Shut the fuck up, you piece of dog shit. You’re just mad cause nobody gives a fuck about you: yo mama don’t care about you, yo daddy don’t care about you, and I don’t give a shit about you. Now, go play swords with Q-Tip that BITCH! He’s no icon, no legend, and his rap sucks! Let him know TRIPOD THE MAN just called him out!

    3. It wasn’t really a “history” lesson… more like an unwarranted rant while defending Banks. Not saying that they weren’t facts, but out of ALL the ppl he could’ve tweeted that at… come on now. Qtip lost points for that. Why doesn’t he do that to trap rappers who clearly states “f** hip hop I do it for the money”? And then he REACHES to try and question Action Bronson… its like he just wants his “big brother” “I know it all” moment. Gtfoh b. “It bothers me when the gods get to acting like the broads.”

    4. If these butthurt negros would just STFU her 15 min would run out and she would be unheard of by this time next year like all the other one hit wonder artists who make shit music of no substance. You realize her album hasn’t even gone gold yet? What the hell are yall so scared of if she’s not even selling like that? All this attacking her is only making her more popular and relevant. She couldn’t buy this kind of press if she tried! 9th Wonder has the right idea. Go support the artists you actually fuck with and stop complaining!

      1. Ur such a dick. Ur an asshole. You are mean to Iggy. Stop it or I’m calling the cops and telling on you. This isn’t fair. You can’t talk to her like that and say these things.

    5. All this bitching about Iggy is only making her a bigger star. Niggas should have just ignored her/boycotted.

    6. it does seems fucked up tip would tweet at her and no one else. koons ruined hip-hop long before white girl showed up. she was probably influenced by the koonage that passes for hip-hop these days. then you got q-tip giving migos props when i guarantee they dont give 2 shits about the history of the culture they exploit for $$$$$$…

    7. OK… NOw…. like I was trying to say on her other post that is being censored.
She isnt dealing with anything Drake, Kanye, and Nicki didn’t deal with.
The only difference it that she has the mainstream media like Billboard advocating for her and Drake didnt have that “privilege”. Get it I.G. ???
Now back to HIP HOP NEWS…..
Did Nicki’s numbers come in yet for the Pinkprint?
Is Nicki still the QUEEN OF RAP?
Did she sell more the 13,000 that IG sold? LOL

      1. It’s truly unfortunate that at a time of such crisis, an icon, and what has always seemed to be a legend of intelligence, Q Tip would go out of his way to create this type of separatist drama and direct it at Iggy. Everything he stated is factual, and I don’t believe anyone disagrees with the content of the notion, but the way it was delivered was unnecessarily condescending. Nevermind the fact that he seems to completely ignore the multitudes of different races of people who have contributed just as much to the music itself as the civil rights movement did. I guess he doesn’t recognize, Roger Linn and Akai as contributors to ‘His’ culture, or Emile Berliner who invented the gramophone, or George Neumann whom invented the direct drive turntable, or Les Paul whom invented multi track recording as credit worthy when addressing who is deserving of contribution. Over all the way Q Tip chose to go about teaching this history lesson is a down right embarrassment to the very music, he claims to be protecting. Astounded he would publicly stoop to such a low level to explain something so simple. Its also quite ridiculous that he clearly does not realize as long as the powers that be can keep folks like this arguing with each other over an artistic movement and skin color, as a whole we ALL lose. You can preach equality, then turn around and intentionally make manuevers to separate yourself. Damn.

    8. as a Brotha I feel the need to speak out

First of all I am no fan of Iggy

      but

This girl banks is clearly outta control

Like I said b4 no fan of Iggy but you gotta admit though whether you like her or not she does have some talent.

This girl Banks from what Ive heard has no talent what-so-ever I mean we gotta keep it real I know lots of us arent fans of Iggy but Banks in comparison makes Iggy Look like Biggy for christ sakes.

Banks needs to leave hip-hop I plead and beg she does for the betterment of music and our culture!!

      1. I would say that Banks’ music is much better than Iggy’s and much more original too. It’s a matter of opinion.

      2. Azealia Banks is 23 and admitted she didn’t even like hip-hop until she was in her late teens yet people are acting like shes hip-hops savior. She doesn’t even make hip-hop!

    9. She flows better than most rappers of any color on the radio today! As a purest, raised during the golden era, I’d go with her music over the dumbed-down, auto-tuned, cliche, wanna-be gansta, tattoed, rap that’s prolific over the radio waves today. Hip hop today (syrup-rap) is the genre’s version of the big hair, feminine tight wearing times of rock.

    10. Q Tip co-signed Migos and called them “The Truth”, that’s all you need to hear to know that he’s full of shit.

    11. I agree with Iggy and I’m not even a fan like that. Anytime a white person takes the throne everyone starts pulling the race card to justify their decline in interest. Nobody is checking for them then they start calling out Eminem lol

    12. everybody’s supposed to be hating on this Iggy woman but yet no one is asking her for these “talented” bars. the “goat” Marshall Mathers threw a dart @ her. Lupe’s label is run by Iggy’s main sponsor. willi.i.am got Fergie, who made Nelly look like Chief Keef on a track. Iggy know all about the culture, saying she meshed genre’s together (it was already done in the 80’s though), but has zero bars and unlimited access to the studio and major label backing to put out responses and collabos quicker than these tweets. Even Canada Dry dropped bars. PinkPrint too. Iggy is a fraud.

      1. and yet you two have yet to address what I said first. where are her peers’ acceptance and clamoring for her bars? I never spoke of banks and I said Fergie outdid nelly, neither one of you made a strong point and look juvenile

      2. Was anyone clamoring Bobby Shmurda’s bars? What about French Montana’s bars? Chief Keef’s bars? I know Soulja Boy was heavily praised by his all of his peers for his progressive lyricism. Nah but I didn’t know you had to spit like Nasir in 93 to express yourself in a song.

      3. I get it, I’m dealing with infants here. How many of you responders gonna name 100 other rappers before you can even list one thing about this woman w/o your cape on. It’s very foretelling, I’m more right than you can ever be, that’s why you need more people and tangents for your argument.

    13. Are yawl serious right now with this focus on Iggy???? IGGY!! Eminem is great because he HAD TO BE to survive in the Hip-hop genre. Iggy sucks because almost everybody else sucks in Hip-hop right now. THINK about that. The bar is way low right now. She’s capitalizing correctly for the market. When hip-hop artist get their shit together then artist like Iggy won’t be on your minds.

    14. This girl is not the problem. It’s people like Kanye bitching about not being accepted by MTV which barely played hip hop to begin with that’s the bigger problem. It’s jay Z choosing to tour with Justin Timberlake than J Cole and distancing himself from all of hip hop that’s the bigger problem. It’s lil Wayne pretending to be a blood slash skateboarder and making a rock album that’s the real problem. It’s Nicki Minaj going completely away from rap to try and become a pop star then realizing they really didn’t want her then trying to claim hip hop again that’s the bigger problem. It’s all the artist doing videos with Miley Cyrus who’s been more offensive to our culture that’s the bigger problem. It’s Nas defending gweneth Paltrow saying nigg3r saying and I quote “I’ll slap the shit out of somebody for Gweneth Paltrow” that’s the real problem. Don’t blame this little white girl for trying to be an image hip hop has portrayed across the world the last few years. Hip hop use to be the voice of the youth and issues seen from our point of view. Q-Tip should be focusing on why phife can’t stand his ass instead of beefing with this little white girl just trying to be what she’s seen.

      1. You are correct that Jay-z is human dogshit– house negro dont care about nothing but his fake blond butch wife/beard and white $$$. buy black!!!!

    15. 16. POP RAP. Unfortunately that’s what it is, and it S.U.C.K.S

Seriously, do you see this as any advatnage to Hip Hop? Making a new genre called POP RAP. Even the name is horrible.

Horrible is the best way to describe Iggy’s music and the “genre” itself; Pop Rap

    17. Yo Q-Tip, why did you wait for Iggy to blow up before you chimed in? Chief Keef, Migos, SMurda, a whole gang of NY artist been fucking up Hip-hop brah.

      1. He’s a racist. He praised Migos as being “The Truth”. And Migos might know less about the history of the culture than Iggy! Bet he wouldn’t say shit to Macklemore, Yelawolf, Paul Wall or Shady.

      2. Your post is brilliant sir, mainly because I said the same thing….lol. I brought up how A&R’s influenced these artists to put out club records to sell n how artists were quite happy to. And letting garbage rappers in and trying to make club hits. She was in denial.

      3. Well, Macklemore shared his influences on “Can’t Hold Us” and even has a song called “White Priviledge”. Yelawolf is signed to Shady, and we all know Eminem has skills, came up under Dre and shows respect for the culture. Q-Tip probably didn’t think about Paul Wall since he’s not popular anymore and only had a short run in the mid 2000s.

      4. Iggy tweeted this at Azealia Banks “Now! rant, Make it racial! make it political! Make it whatever but I guarantee it won’t make you likable & THATS why ur crying on the radio.”
Q-tip’s point is that it is racial and political. Iggy made it clear with this tweet that she doesn’t understand that, and Q-tip politely explained this to her.

      5. race and politics got nothing to do with that girls music. q-tip just mad his daughter knows all the words to fancy and not scenario.

    18. Witless white cunttt– without Negro sponsorship to start– and ongoing cumbaths for her ashy skin– she’d be where? And where was she before her dogshit version hip-hop?

    19. I am disappointed by Q-Tip. The days of keeping it real are long gone in Hip Hop.

I never understood the racism by African Americans toward white hip hop performers. If any of these artists notice, most of their concerts are packed with white people.

White people have allowed the genre to be commercialized. To be in commercials, soundtracks, games.

Yet when a white person becomes a Hip hop artists all the haters come out. I really thought we were passed this when Eminem became a huge star.

      1. LMFAO no one cares about Iggy bro. Ain’t no comments to block on a Nicki article. You’re the only Nicki fan on this website. I hope you’re a female because you’re comments have been coming off pretty feminine.

    20. YOU EITHER HIP HOP OR POP. THERE IS NO POP RAP.

IGGY IS POP. SHE HAS NO TIES TO HIP HOP OR THE HIP HOP CULTURE.

JUST COS YOU RAP DONT MEAN YOU HIP HOP.

      1. Right, because if that’s the case, then Technotronic, Black Box and Real McCoy would all be rap groups instead of dance groups.

    21. Fine! Have it your way…. Whites aren’t allowed to rap or speak about their feelings towards other races. Whites are trying to steal rap music. Whites will be taking Basketball, Football, and Baseball back though. They have derived from white culture and whites are tired of blacks stealing their stuff….. Or we can all just grow a pair and stop hating for no reason.

      1. if the white boys and asians took back their turntables, samplers and multi track recorders these guys would all be shit outta luck.

      2. don’t mention to rappers how hip hop grew out of european electronic music. saying it came from appropriating white culture is the easiest way to piss off a hip hop fan these days hahahahahaha

      3. @tommy tommerson

Ahahaha for real. If they actually knew the history of hip hop they would never say ignant sh!t like white people and other race are guest in hip-hop. These fools actually think Russell Simmons started Def Jam. You mention Rick Rubin or Bob James to these morons and they scratch their heads going, who?

      4. im going to say this again cause you guys don’t see the major flaw in using the arguments you’ve made up, so here it goes: i get the point you are trying to make, but this is a fools argument. so because of the source material used to create hip hop wasn’t invented by blacks, that means they can’t take credit for it? thats nonsense. thats like saying because blacks didn’t create the guitars or drums, they can’t take credit for starting rock music, or because they didn’t invent the saxophone or trumpet, they can’t take credit for creating jazz music. going by this very same logic, americans in general (black or white) get no credit for creating american music because they used instruments created by europeans. thats just a nonsensical argument that won’t get you very far in any serious debate.

    22. “Rap is not pop, if u call it that than…” – Q-Tip

Thanks Lupe & Will for standing up for the female Vanilla Ice ….YA FAGS

    23. WHITE AUSTRALIAN FEMALE DEFENDS HERSELF AGAINST CONDESCENDING RACIAL TWITTER BULLSHIT.

NEXT UP, WHY EVER RAPPER NEEDS TO WEIGH IN ON THIS AND WHY THIS SHOULD BE A BIG ISSUE FOR THE BLACK COMMUNITY!

    24. It’s hilarious. Hip-Hop music started by straight stealing, oh I’m sorry, I meant “Sampling” music from WHITE electronic groups like Kraftwerk from Germany and these fools talking about it belongs to black people only. You jackasses didn’t start a damn thing. Hip-Hop belongs to everyone on this planet. Here’s another shocker. Black people did not invent the turntables.

      1. i get the point you are trying to make, but this is a fool’s argument that won’t get you very far. so because of the source material used to create hip hop wasn’t invented by blacks, that means they can’t take credit for it? thats nonsense. thats like saying because blacks didn’t create the guitars or drums, they can’t take credit for starting rock music, or because they didn’t invent the saxophone or trumpet, they can’t take credit for creating jazz music. going by this very same logic, americans in general (black or white) get no credit for creating american music because they used instruments created by europeans. thats just a nonsensical argument that won’t get you very far

    25. NEW MC EIHT ALBUM COVER FOR WHICH WAY IZ WEST ON EIHT’S TWITTER PAGE , GEEAH IT’S A COMPTON THANG AND BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THE STREIHT UP MENACE BECUZ ITS THICKER THAN WATER BABY ME AND YOU .

OH YEAH THAT BLACK BITCH CAN SUCK A HUGE BEAUTFIL 13 INCH BLACK COCK AND SHUT THE FUCK UP , WHITE WOMEN LOVE THAT BEAUTIFUL BLACK COCK .

      1. bruh! a black kid once came into my back yard at night and stole the fucking clothes right off the clothesline! then we saw him wearing that shit 2 weeks later and chased him down before we snitched to the popo.

      2. Why am I not surprised by that bike story! Oh yeah, some black guy stole my bike when I was a kid, so I know that’s a fact!

    26. POP RAP. Same shit as MC Hammer. Same shit as Kriss Kross. Same shit as Vanilla Ice. Same shit as Sir Mix A Lot. Same shit as Puff Daddy. Same shit as Nelly. Same shit as Chingy. Same shit as Lil Bow Wow. Same shit as…. why are y’all acting like this is something new. Dead serious question.

      1. lol you perfectly demonstrated why arguments like this: “YOU EITHER HIP HOP OR POP. THERE IS NO POP RAP. IGGY IS POP. SHE HAS NO TIES TO HIP HOP OR THE HIP HOP CULTURE. JUST COS YOU RAP DONT MEAN YOU HIP HOP” are not logically sound. these negros need to use logic and think about what they are saying before they open their mouth or type on their keyboards, because alot of their arguments are incoherent nonsense. BTW, people taking azealia bank’s side can’t call iggy pop and then call banks real hip hop, when the foundation for banks’s style of music is house music and pop music too. you don’t get to criticize iggy for being pop but give banks a pass.

    27. I listen to punk rock and when there’s a punk band thats got black members or all black i dont say “there’s no place for them in punk rock, this is a white thing”

      you guys sound ridiculous
