Since Azealia Banks’ Hot 97 interview during which she called out Iggy Azalea, the topic of the Australian-born rapper and her music has become a hot one.
Q-Tip, someone who is widely regarded as a 90s gatekeeper of the culture, recently chimed in and decided to recite Hip Hop’s history in order to address his opinion about Azalea.
“You have to take into account the HISTORY as you move underneath the banner of hiphop,” he said via Twitter. “I’m Kool with [your music] as long as I got to share this w u. Zzzzzzz’s up! Peace!” He would also relay how Hip Hop culture was based on an escape African Americans had during the trials and tribulations of living in New York during the 1970s.
Some Hip Hop luminaries have come to Iggy Azalea’s defense in the past. Back in July, Questlove said that Hip Hop is a contagious culture and Iggy is just another one of those wanting to be a part.
