Earlier this year, Public Enemy leader Chuck D aligned himself with European-based Sellaband.com [click to read], an independent site that allows fans to fund up-and-coming artists’ albums. With over 30 acts gaining the opportunity to make their dreams come true, the site has become a world-wide success. Now, the legendary group will make history as the first established music act to sign up at Sellaband.

Sellaband‘s financial engine model goes about restructuring the music business in reverse,” Chuck D said in a press statement. Praising their innovative strategy, he continued, “It starts with fans first, then the artists create from there. The music business is built on searching for fans and this is a brand new way for acts to create a new album with fans first, already on board.”

While the standard cost to green-light an album on the site is $50,000, Public Enemy is looking to raise $250,000 for their eleventh studio album. Fans who contribute to PE’s funds will be treated with an exclusive copy of the final product, as the album will be numbered to honor their support.
