The Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation will partner with the Woodruff Library in Atlanta to make available Tupac‘s writings, papers, and personal notes for scholarly research. The Tupac Collection will include the late rapper’s personal items, including track listings, handwritten lyrics, fan correspondence, video and film concepts. Combined, the library hopes that the materials will give a deeper insight into the mind of Tupac‘s genius.
“The Woodruff Library Archives has done a phenomenal job archiving my son’s materials,” said Afeni Shakur. “I thank their staff for partnering with my family and the foundation in helping to make these important documents available in a professional manner that will benefit scholars for years to come.”
In addition, the library plans to archive all of the information onto a digital media base, making the collection available to students from Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse, and Spelman.
“Mr. Shakur was a multi-dimensional artist who helped define a musical genre,” said Loretta Parham, CEO and library director, “and as the academic library serving four institutions of higher learning, it is our mission, as well as a great privilege, to help promote scholarship and research of his work, and the mechanics of his creative process and the hip hop culture.”
The Tupac Shakur Collection opens in the Fall of 2010.
