The Cincinnati Enquirer reports Padron Thomas, the man who was involved in a shooting that resulted in the death of rapper T.I.’s [click to read] friend and assistant Philant “Big Phil” Johnson, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison by a U.S. District Judge.

During his trial, 41-year-old Thomas attempted to explain to the judge how he attempted to get his life back on track after being released from prison in 2002, but after he lost his job things went downhill.

“I was a knucklehead,”
Thomas explained to the judge. “I wish I could take it back.”

Between his release from prison in 2002 and the 2006 attack on T.I. and his entourage [click to read], Thomas returned to a life of crime, assaulting a friend and even becoming involved in a drug conspiracy.

Despite Thomas’ pleas in court he was still sentenced to 17 years on drug conspiracy and gun charges by U.S. District Judge Sandra Beckwith.

Late last year Thomas’ brother Hosea Thomas, the man responsible for the death of Johnson, was sentenced to 66 years in prison [click to read].

Padron Thomas became a key witness in the case against his brother, he was also very cooperative with authorities. And if it wasn’t for Thomas’ cooperation with police he would have been given a much longer sentence.
