As a member of the ‘90’s ground-breaking Southern rap act Geto Boys and likewise successful solo career to boot, Willie D has had his fair share of controversy. Offering tracks like “Fuck the KKK” and “Trenchcoats-N-Ganksta Hats”, Willie D was never afraid to speak his mind in the form of a record.

Though his interests are now focused on management and business ventures rather than rapping, Willie D still feels Hip Hop needs invigorating artists who push the boundaries. Continuing on this legacy will be his newly-signed group Huntzville. Hailing from the city of Huntsville, Texas, Huntzville consists of three members; C-Lean, D-Boi and Lil’ Fly. Filled with emcee vigor and a drive to make an instant impact on Hip Hop, Willie D expects Huntzville’s debut album Disrupting The Ordinary to throw listeners into the hot seat.

Igniting their flame will be the controversially-titled first single “Backpack Fulla Guns.” Though the content of this track deals with the horrific situation of a student planning to commit a school shooting, Huntzville member C-Lean explains that the message of the song speaks of a larger dynamic as to why these events arguably happen in the first place—bullying.

“Everybody can relate to being bullied or bullying. It is so commonplace today, [yet] on CNN the other day they only ran a little tickertape on the bottom of the screen, saying there was another school shooting in Jersey. These are not even featured stories any more. No one seems to care.”

With that said, C-Lean feels the significance of “Backpack Fulla Guns” is something that bridges generations, and likewise is and likewise is relatable to people old and young. “We wanted to do something of substance that you could listen to 20 years from now that would still be applicable.”

Adding D-Boi, “[Backpack Fulla Guns] has a lot of meaning behind it. It’s not just a bunch of killing people. It’s not just mindless violence. We wanted to put a mirror up through this song, to show society that they’re not doing enough about this. These shootings are going on all over America, and they are a worldwide problem. Our job with the song is to remind people we need to take care of it, or it is going to keep happening.”

Huntzville’s debut album Disrupting The Ordinary will be released in early 2009 under Relentless Music.
