Mac Miller fans and loved ones have taken to social media to pay tribute to the late rapper and producer on the fourth anniversary of his death.

Mac passed away at the age of 26 after an accidental overdose on September 7, 2018. Shortly after Miller’s death in 2018, L.A. County Coroner’s Office confirmed he had died due to a lethal combination of fentanyl, cocaine and alcohol in his system.

Three accused drug dealers who prosecutors said supplied Miller with counterfeit oxycodone laced with fentanyl were later charged, and two of them have been sentenced to at least 11 years in prison.

Mac Miller was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and rose to prominence off the “frat rap” wave of the 2010s. His debut mixtape, K.I.D.S., was met with glowing reviews and the young rapper was soon inducted into the XXL Freshman Class of 2011 alongside Kendrick Lamar and Meek Mill.

From there, Miller would go on to release five more commercially and critically successful albums. His posthumous sixth album Circles was released on January 17, 2020.

Mac Miller’s death sent shockwaves through the rap community, and his fans and friends took a moment on Wednesday to pay their respects to the late artist.

“Mac Miller dying shifted my perspective in so many areas of my life,” one fan wrote on Twitter. “That day will forever be ingrained in my head. The day it happened felt like such a blur, but now every year I remember it so vividly. All the way down to what time it was when I found out the news.”

“Can’t believe it’s already been four years since we lost mac miller,” another fan added on Twitter. “Make sure to let your friends and family know how much they mean to you. always spread love, life is too short love y’all.”

A third wrote: “This doesn’t apply to many, but when some adults smile hard or genuinely laugh, u can see the child they once were. Mac Miller had that kind of smile/laugh that I wish more adults still had. RIP Mac. And for those who still haven’t lost their child-like smile/laugh: keep smiling.”

Thundercat, one of Mac Miller’s closest friends and frequent collaborator, also paid tribute on Instagram by posting a few screenshots from the pair’s viral NPR Tiny Desk performance.

“Give your friends their flowers while they are alive,” Thundercat wrote.


French Montana also paid tribute to Mac Miller on Tuesday (September 6), when he announced he was launching an addiction help service in honor of the “Dang!” rapper.

Montana, who has battled his own addiction issues in the past, explained on the PEOPLE Every Day podcast how his latest partnership with Guardian Recovery Services and NAQI Healthcare aims to provide supervised in-home detox programs for addicts looking to get sober.

“[Mac Miller’s death] touched me because I’m in that space and I consider these artists as my brothers and my family,” French said. “And when we lose one, it’s like damn near losing part of us.”

He went on to explain that his program helps addicts detox the correct way since doing so on your own can sometimes lead to dangerous situations.

“You can’t shake it off yourself, because it’s dangerous,” he said. “I’m very excited and very happy that we can cure people, especially in the comfort of their homes. A lot of people are private.”

He continued: “When you go through your problems, you want to stay private and you want to be taken care of wherever you’re comfortable. We want to help people stay alive as much as we can, wherever they’re comfortable.”
