Joell Ortiz Tells KXNG Crooked He’s ‘Not Above A Diss Record’ As They Discuss Slaughterhouse Beef

KXNG Crooked and Joell Ortiz hopped on Instagram Live over the weekend and discussed the dissolution of Slaughterhouse. In particular, they addressed former member Royce Da 5’9 who recently voiced his opinions on Ortiz and Crook’s collaborative album The Rise and Fall of Slaughterhouse (again).

The project, which arrived in March, drew strong reactions from both Royce and fellow Slaughterhouse alum Joe Budden. Prior to its arrival, Budden and Ortiz ended up getting into an argument on Instagram Live with Budden telling his former collaborator, “That album can suck my dick!” Budden later invited Royce on to The Joe Budden Podcast to review the album.

In the new clip, Ortiz suggested he’s ready to drop a diss track aimed at Nickel Nine if necessary.

“I’m not above a diss record, my n-gga,” Ortiz said around the 1:25-minute mark. “Get what I’m saying? All I did on that last album was tell the fucking truth. I told the fans why there was no more Slaughterhouse. That’s it. I didn’t call n-ggas out they name. I didn’t do anything but say the truth.

“But if n-ggas keep it up, I’m not above a diss record, bro. […] So just leave me alone. I’m not bothering you. I said my truth. I haven’t mentioned anything since March.”

The Rise and Fall of Slaughterhouse contained the track “Vacancy” in which Ortiz summed up exactly what he felt caused the group to go their separate ways.

“Royce said he ain’t doing the three-man without Joe,” he rapped. “But Joe said he retired, so how the hell is it supposed to go/I looked in the eyes of Crooked I and said one last time, he said let’s go/So this one’s for the fans and anyone else who wants to know/Why the best group ever/Turned out to be one of the best groups that never.”

Despite the group’s salty relationship, KXNG Crooked said he doesn’t hold any hate for Royce Da 5’9. As he explained, “I don’t hate Royce Da 5’9. I don’t hate him. I don’t hate that brother. I don’t hate Royce Da 5’9. He said some disrespectful things. Cool. I didn’t even trip. Now he’s on Part 2 […] They askin’ the questions. You responded. You ain’t duckin’ no conversation.

“It’s coming across like people feel, possibly Royce and Joe, that we’ve been beneath them this whole time, and that’s disheartening. Anyway, it’s Friday and we got a new album coming out.”

The follow-up to The Rise and Fall of Slaughterhouse is expected to arrive on September 16. As for Royce, he released a greatest hits compilation called The Heaven Experience Vol. 1 on August 12 with collaborations featuring Black ThoughtBig K.R.I.T. and Courtney Bell, as well as multi-platinum producers Jake One and S1.

      1. Man. I started off as a Royce fan in the beginning of his career, especially the way he went at D12 and Em on some solo mission. Which put points in my book. But the whole Lupe / RJ Payne scene left a bad taste. I’ll still support this brother, but those moments in time when his personality goes left….Royce this point in time should be Detroits Killer Mike all the way, and not 3 quarters. Me on the other hand, loses my path from time to time…but Royce’s music inspires and motivates me. So in his defense, this is not a thrown rock, just a fan that wants his hero to bounce back and come back stronger from drama. Royce! You King champ! Just breathe in, breathe out. Cats like me need that inspiration, bc I look up to you…

    1. That’s definitely not the case that they’re below them. Crook is the best out of the group and is one of those trivia questions on that short what if list of dudes who should have blown. Royce and Joe just had better connections and label situations. If they weren’t dealing with so much nonsense and Suge could have had his late 90s production team stay with him, Crook could have carried Death Row on another run like Wayne did Cash Money.

        1. I don’t know about that because I know how Dre is about wanting radio hits, and Crook isn’t that guy. He does spit like a motherfucker though, and with a more focused label situation where an executive is pointing him in the right direction and giving him super producers to work with, he would have been huge. He got to Death Row when it was in that fucked up state, but he had some heat in the vault before they started using bootleg producers. He’s more charismatic on the mike than Game and can rap better than him, but even Game needed those radio hits for Dre to get him off the shelf. When he got disillusioned with the major shit, he went in his underground bag, and that’s worked for him, but he could have been one of those dudes. He’s that good. Like the first time I heard him, I was like who the fuck is this dude, and I don’t say that about too many rappers.

      1. Joell has a certified classic album with Apollo Brown …Mona Lisa. KXNG Crooked is the definition of authenticity and integrity. And he can destroy any rapper in one rhyme. If you don’t fuck with them you just like skinny jean Mumble shit. I don’t blame ya cus the industry brainwashing works on y’all like magic.

      2. They’re addressing it because money was on the table. Some of you stupid fucks think millions of dollars in that industry is nothing while you have Joe Budden lying about the situation because his podcast took off, and Royce acting funny in the light because his Eminem nut hugging made it not matter as much to his career. Had it been around the time he was still beefing with Eminem, he would have felt the same way as those two to see the least talented person in the group sabotage the shit.

    2. 59 really thinks he’s famous like jay, 50 or snoop. He just lucky that Eminem is he’s friend. None of he’s solo albums are gold or platinum, never had a top 10 solo hit. He’s just the same level as crooked except that crooked got a lot more history in hip hop.

      1. Royce got a grammy nod. Royce is recognized by real emcees as elite. Got joint projects with Em and Preme – and maybe soon enough Black Thought. So get out ur feelings.

        1. Dude on here talking about Grammies like that validates somebody, lol. Cardi fucking B got a Grammy nod. Pac and Biggie never got one. Think about that before you bring that corny shit up ever again. FOH here with that shit. The Allegory was one of Royce’s worst albums, but because the corny Grammies said it’s tight, it’s tight to cornballs like you. Back to Crook. Ain’t nobody who can see him on the mike, period. Point blank. If you don’t know, you better find out. He’s the definition of dope rapper who got caught up in label politics, and he’s never cried about it. Just kept putting out dope music.

    3. Royce the best out the group but Royce not as consistent as Crook. Royce corny and all but Crook nowhere as versatile as 5’9.

    4. Royce’s greatest hits didn’t sell because all his Greatest hits are with Eminem and he’s not on there lol
