Doja Cat’s third album Planet Her accumulated multiple accolades after its release in June. The project was a pop music behemoth and later nominated for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards. The album’s bubbly lead single, “Kiss Me More” featuring  SZA, additionally won the award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, and was also nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

While Planet Her ultimately leaned heavier into pop than rap, Doja Cat said in an interview with Elleher next album is going to be Hip Hop-heavy.

“I’ve rapped since the beginning, and I really couldn’t even sing that well to begin with—I got a lot better,” Doja said. “I use my voice as a tool to create these worlds, and it’s fine if people think that I can’t rap.”

Doja Cat’s rap talents have been a source of debate for years now. Most recently, Remy Ma said in an interview with Drink Champs she refuses to call the “Need To Know” vocalist a rapper.

“I don’t think she’s a rapper,” Remy said. “Let’s be clear with that. They put her in the rapper category, I don’t think she’s a rapper. But she makes dope records, and I think she’s dope.”

While Doja Cat was, unfortunately, forced to pull out of a massive summer tour alongside The Weeknd due to tonsil surgery, the 26-year-old said her next album is “coming up.” She previously noted it’s going to be a double album with production from 9th Wonder and Jay Versace.

“I have been getting songs and things sent to me,” she told Elle. “Oh fuck, I wish I could tell people! There’s some really cool stuff that I got sent from friends. They’re all working on beats, and I’m giving them notes and they know what I want, so I’m excited.”
