EarthGang has locked down a lucrative gig as the opening act for Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett’s band Gorillaz as part of an expansive North American tour. Produced by Live Nation, the 22-date trek marks the Gorillaz’s first U.S. trip since 2018 when they brought Vince Staples and Danny Brown along for the ride.

The tour kicks off on September 11 in Vancouver, British Columbia before heading down the West Coast to Seattle and Portland. After quick stops at the Life Is Beautiful Festival in Las Vegas on September 17 and Salt Lake City, they hop back to the California for two dates in Los Angeles and San Francisco. The tour eventually wraps up on October 23 in Miami at the FTX Arena, although electronic group Jungle will replace EarthGang on both Florida dates.

Beginning with Del The Funky Homosapien on “Clint Eastwood,” the British-born talent and former lead singer of Blur has always interwoven Hip Hop into Gorillaz’s music. Speaking to HipHopDX in 2017, he raved about Staples’ music and the opportunity to collaborate with him on the song “Love Can Be” from Staples’ 2017 album Big Fish Theory.

“He’s great,” Albarn said at the time. “He’s doing something different. He’s kind of anti-Hip Hop, isn’t he? I like that style. I like that not buying into more of the distractive aspects of the culture. I was delighted to be on his album. It made me happy. We got along great. He’s a real character. I’m looking forward to hanging out with him for the next seven weeks.”
