It may have come as a shock to those in the T-Dot, but there are rappers from Vancouver other than the Rascalz. This year’s Juno winners for best rap recording were a surprise to many, but that doesn’t make them any less deserving. Swollen Members have been rocking the West Coast underground scene for a long time, and they were rewarded with the Juno for their album Balance. They beat out an all-Toronto field made up of nominees Brass Munk, Kardinall, DJ Serious, and Baby Blue Soundcrew (featuring Kardi, Sean Paul and Jully Black).
Eminem won the Juno for top-selling foreign album. Montreal turntablist Kid Koala was nominated for best alternative album and Snow was nominated for best male artist and best pop, but both lost.
