On Wednesday (March 2) the 2022 Billboard Women In Music Awards celebrated the women of music, recognizing some of the most impactful artists of the last year. The event was hosted by Ciara at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles, and while the evening was filled with many memorable moments, a few notable names walked away with some impressive awards.
Saweetie was presented with the Game Changer Award by her own mother Trinidad Valentin. The award was handed to Saweetie after she performed her 2022 hit “Closer.” She was only the second artist to receive this award behind Nicki Minaj in 2020. The award recognized Saweetie’s achievement in securing 100 appearances on the Billboard Hot 100.
Normani also presented the Powerhouse Award to Doja Cat for her blockbuster album Planet Her; an award that recognizes a woman whose music has dominated the past year in sales, streaming and radio. Ari Lennox also presented the Chartbreaker Award to Summer Walker to recognize the success of her sophomore record Still Over It. The award was for the project’s 18 tracks all landing on the Billboard Hot 100 shortly after its November release.

Summer Walker and Saweetie have been enjoying their new haircuts, with the latter also enjoying the success of “Closer,” which debuted at No. 89 on the Hot 100 in February. As for Doja Cat, it announced on Thursday (March 3) the pop star will soon be hitting the road for an 18-city trek alongside The Weeknd for his massive After Hours Til Dawn Tour, which is set to kick off in The Weeknd’s hometown of Toronto on July 8.
