Kanye West wants to rename February when it comes to celebrating Black excellence. Yeezy took to his Instagram on Tuesday (February 1) to declare February 2022 as the first Black Future Month, rather than commemorating Black History Month as it’s been recognized since 1976.
“FEBRUARY IS NOW BLACK FUTURE MONTH #BFM,” Kanye wrote with an accompanying Black photo that could double as album art.
Photos and clips have surfaced online of Kanye hosting some sort of press conference with all attendees draped in Black. NFL star Antonio Brown, Gunna, Shenseea and Fivio Foreign have all been spotted in attendance.
“Black Future Month is us taking control of our own narrative,” jazz trumpeter Theo Croker added in an Instagram Story while surrounded by the approximate 50 people at the conference stationed inside an open warehouse where Ye has previously held Sunday Service.
Don’t expect any Black Future Month NFTs to come about from Yeezy, either. Kanye trashed the trend that has seen some of his Hip Hop running mates dive head-first into on Monday (January 31).
“My focus is on building real products in the real world,” he wrote in Sharpie marker. “Real world real food real shelter Do not ask me to do a fucking NFT. Ye ask me later.”
