As one of the most successful rappers of all time, Nicki Minaj‘s name naturally comes up in Verzuz conversations. But will fans ever get to witness the Queen of Hip Hop enter the ring?
During a recent interview with Houston’s 97.9 The Box, Nicki addressed the possibility of her participating in a Verzuz battle and offered her thoughts on who — if anyone — she would battle.
When host J-Mac named Drake and Lil Wayne as her only worthy Verzuz opponents, the Queens, New York native rubbished the chances of her matching up against her Young Money compatriots, both of whom she feels have a stronger catalog of rap records.
However, Nicki didn’t entirely dismiss the notion of her stepping into the Verzuz ring, admitting there are a couple of fellow female MCs out there who she sees as fair competition.

“But see, Drake and Wayne… they have so many bona fide Hip Hop hits, so I don’t know,” she said. “But I do think there might be a female or two that can [step into the ring with me.]”
Nicki Minaj went onto to reveal she’s spoken to Verzuz co-founders Swizz Beatz and Timbaland about possibly setting up a battle, but made it clear she’d want the event to be more of a celebration than a competition.
“Well, they were talking to me about it,” she said. “But look, if it’s going to be a fun [battle], then you never know! That’s all I’ll say about that.”
She added, “It should feel like a celebration, that’s exactly what I would like it to feel like. Fun, happiness. Because a lot of times with my career, stuff would feel like work. And now I’m just like, ‘No. Everything needs to feel good. That’s it.'”

One female rap icon who wants to step into the Verzuz ring with Nicki Minaj is Lil Kim. During a red carpet interview at the 2021 BET Awards last June, the Queen Bee didn’t hesitate to name Nicki when she was asked who she’d like to go up against in a crown-for-crown contest.
Given the history between her and Nicki, Kim’s answer sparked a heated debate on social media with fans of both New York natives taking sides. Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion and Foxy Brown have also been brought up as potential opponents for Nicki Minaj, but only time will tell if such a battle will happen.
