It’s been quite some time since Future dropped a solo project. His eighth studio album High Off Life arrived in May 2020 and save for a slew of guest features, fans have been yearning for something new from the Atlanta rapper.

Well, it looks like fans’ wishes might be granted this year. On Monday (January 17), longtime Future collaborator Metro Boomin took to his Instagram Story with a photo of him in the studio with Pluto.

“Back 2 The Basics @Future,” Metro wrote. It’s been three years since the duo last connected on wax — on Nicki Minaj‘s “Sir” — but given their extensive catalog of hits including “Jumpman,” “Mask Off” and “Wicked,” fans were more than happy to see Metro and Future working on new music.

The hype over Metro Boomin’s Instagram Story reached another level when the Freebandz leader shared an Instagram video that may contain even more hints at new music on the horizon.

In the clip, fans can see Hendrix gazing out of a window while he’s smoking as a new song plays in the background. The video cuts off as the camera pans to show a laptop with what appears to be a producer working on the track.

One of the last times Future and Metro Boomin were spotted in the studio was in November 2020, when Hendrix shared a photo of himself, Metro and Southside in a since-deleted post with a caption that read “Monster 2?”
