Filipino rapper and 1096 Gang member Guddhist Gunatita has always created music with easygoing sensibilities that make the listener feel understood. His latest and last release of 2021 “Sunset” imbues his familiar disposition and elevates his sound with poppy, upbeat soundbites, and striking wordplay.

The track premiered last December 24 as a gift to his supporters, with the artist writing in the description: “Maraming salamat sa lahat ng pagmamahal at suporta sa aking musika at sa aking pagkatao, mahal ko kayo at nais ko sa inyong ipaalam na parte kayo lahat ng aking ebolusyon sa musika at sa sarili! Maligayang buhay at araw sa inyo maraming salamat!” (Thank you very much for all the love and support for my music and for who I am, I love you all and I want you to know that you’re part of my personal evolution and my music’s! Have a great life and day thank you very much!).

Paired with simple visuals, Gunatita performs the track against the backdrop of kaleidoscopic light and serene still life of nature, “Sunset” follows his earlier nature-themed track “Ulan” (Rain) from last year..

“Kahit na anong pagsubok / ‘Di akong pinaghinaang sumubok / Alam ko na darating din ito sa rurok / Sa ngayong kailangan ko munang mahubog,” (No matter what I go through / My resolve never wavers / I know this will all lead me to the peak / Right now I just need to be molded), Gunatita raps on the song. Welcoming the year with a renewed sense of hope and cautious optimism as we leave the exhaustion of the past two years, Guddhist Gunatita’s “Sunset” reminds us to look past the torrent of harsh times and hang onto the light when we can.
