Backed by the undeniable legacies of Outkast and The Dungeon Family, and powered through by next-gen leaders such as Future, 2 Chainz and 21 Savage, the great Hip Hop hotbed of Atlanta has a clear-cut advantage in prestige when it comes to street classics and hits alike.

However, upstart Florida rappers SpotEmGottEm and Yungeen Ace had no issues caping for their hubs in October when the Savage Gang rapper dismissed the notion of a regional Verzuz this year.

Ace Hood, a product of Broward County himself, explained from his own experiences and perspectives Florida rappers’ talent and legal issues often seem to intertwine.

“There are a lot of dope rappers from Florida,” Ace Hood said during a recent interview with HipHopDX. “Kodak Black, Denzel Curry, Ski Mask The Slump God, YNW Melly, and XXXTENTACION have all topped the charts and helped develop mainstream rap today. Oftentimes, the environments that breed our pain, struggles and hardships can become toxic, you’ve got to be careful who you keep in the circle around you.”

The “Bugatti” rapper partnered with Spotify and Complex to host the Infamous: The Story of YNW Melly podcast in September and since then, the double-murder case has heated up exponentially.

While the defense has been steadfast in their stance and approach, Melly’s team pump-faked the masses with a motion for a speedy trial — before withdrawing it a week later, leading the court to settle on a fixed trial date of March 7, 2022.

As a self-sustaining independent artist who also endured the major-label shuffle, Ace Hood knows a thing or two about being a slept-on Hip Hop artist from the Sunshine State. In fact, his wife famously compiled the data of his multi-million stream count and framed it into a custom-made plaque last Christmas. When asked about his upcoming music releases, he did reveal a full-blown album is on the horizon.

“I have been in the studio day and night working on the new project,” he said. “I’m looking forward to everyone joining me on the journey soon. Throughout my career, I have shown an undying willingness to take chances and evolve as an artist, constantly working to better myself and my craft.”
