Buzzing Dreamville rapper Cozz returned with a harrowing new EP called Fortunate that explores the hurdles the Cali rapper had to navigate to find success.

Cozz’s first new project since 2018’s Effected,the seven-track EP includes one feature from fellow L.A. rapper YG on “Control Problems.” An hour before the EP’s release, Cozz actually took to Twitter to air his grievances about how his tracks chronologically appeared on streaming services.

“No lie I’m frustrated cuz I had an idea of how I want people to hear this ep but technical difficulties ddnt allow that to happen,” Cozz wrote. “What’s below is the order so if u care enough, listen as is but if not fuck it the music is the same. This will be fixed by Friday enjoy.”

On tracks like “Cry,” Cozz reflects on the trauma he experienced growing up in L.A., and on “Addicted” he explains how he’s tried to abandon different vices throughout his life. The YG-assisted “Control Problems” is a fun breather of a track where Cozz merely raps about how he pays no mind to inferior rappers.

The 28-year-old could be heard all across 2019’s collaborative Dreamville tape Revenge of the Dreamers III. The album debuted in the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200, and was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2020 Grammys. The project was certified platinum in 2020 as well.

Cozz was featured on “Don’t Hit Me Right Now” alongside Bas, Baby Tate, Guapdad 4000 and Buddy, and on “1993” with J. Cole himself, which was a massive deal considering Cole’s claim to fame of “going platinum with no features” for three straight albums. “Lambotruck,” which featured Cozz, REASON and Childish Major was even given the visual treatment. In fact, J Cole’s stunned reaction to hearing Cozz and REASON trade bars about robbing him on the song went viral a day before the video dropped.
