If you’re a Mos Def fan then you have probably heard of his Rock band The Black Jack Johnson Project. If you’ve seen them live you know no they are no Roots but they have some potential. The thing is though, Mos Def is a hot commodity and this group’s isn’t official on any label.

Mos had intentions of releasing The Black Jack Johnson Project and his own album on his new label Good Tree Records, presently on MCA. According to Rawkus though, that isn’t happening and that Mos Def’s next release will by on Rawkus. What makes this situation interesting is that, Rawkus was bought out by MCA. That makes Rawkus and Good Tree Records are under the MCA umbrella. It should be interesting to see who releases this album.

On another note, 88 Keys, Shawn J Period and DJ Hi Tek helped out on the production of this album.

Also, In 2002 we can expect to see Mos Def in the acting scene as he has been cast to star in the Broadway play Top Dog/Under Dog this March with Don Cheadle, and will appear in the upcoming movie Brown Suga.
