Nicki Minaj was working toward making an appearance at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards, but revealed on Monday (September 13) following the show that her plans were shuttered due to testing positive for COVID-19.

Nicki says she shot a music video and was ready to roll before she was recently diagnosed with COVID-19, which had her quarantined away from her baby boy for over a week. The Queens legend parents without a nanny.

Nicki Minaj was rumored to be making an appearance at tonight’s Met Gala, but also disclosed she wouldn’t be attending over the Gala’s vaccination requirement. Nicki is encouraging fans to make up as she’s still researching the vaccine’s safety but says she’ll probably get the shot at some point as she plans to tour again.

“They want you to get vaccinated for the Met,” she wrote. “If I get vaccinated it won’t for the Met. It’ll be once I feel I’ve done enough research. I’m working on that now. In the meantime my loves, be safe. Wear the mask with 2 strings that grips your head & face. Not that loose one.”

She went on to bring up a story about her Trinidadian cousin’s friend who was vaccinated and became impotent which ruined his relationship wedding plans before also promoting the vaccine’s effectiveness in most people.

“My cousin in Trinidad won’t get the vaccine cuz his friend got it & became impotent,” she continued. “His testicles became swollen. His friend was weeks away from getting married, now the girl called off the wedding. So just pray on it & make sure you’re comfortable with ur decision, not bullied.”

On the music side, Nicki confirmed she’s continuing to work on her fifth studio album and spend precious time with Papa Bear before she returns to the industry with new tunes come next year.
