Hong Kong rapper Haysen Cheng releases “Iced Out Heart” as part of Warner Music China-owned JUUICE Drops initiative. According to a press statement, the track is inspired by “Gucci Mane’s mixtape days.” Although not explicitly mentioned, Gucci Mane had a similarly titled track “Iced Out Bart” in 2015, which was directly inspired by his diamond-encrusted Bart Simpson chain.

“Iced Out Heart” highlights Cheng’s climb to the top, which has made him numb to outside noise and negativity. Rapping in both English and Mandarin, Cheng asserts his dominance as he harps on, “I got an iced out part where my heart used to be.”  The line is also eerily reminiscent of the hook to Omarion’s 2006 hit, “Ice Box” (“I got this icebox where my heart used to be”).

Haysen Cheng is considered as one of Hong Kong’s rising independent rappers in the last few years. He gained wider recognition through hit tracks like “MACHETE” from his critically acclaimed 2019 mixtape Durags & Chopsticks. The music video for “MACHETE” was reposted by FirePanda, one of China’s most influential hip hop pages. Mixmag Asia also commended Cheng for having “one of the illest rap voices in the Asian game.”
