Claiming, “Gibson hates Hip Hop,” QN5 rapper Tonedeff has made public of his qualms with the guitar giant via his blog [click here].
A winner of the 2006 Lollapolooza “Last Man Standing” competition, the Queens, New York-based emcee was promised $10,000 worth of studio equipment from the Nashville-based guitar maker since 1902. In the detailed chronicling of events, Tonedeff shares the email exchanges of him and a Gibson representative, debating retail values, product availability and ultimately, the question as to whether or not a rapper is a musician worthy of instruments.
Saying that nearly three years later, nothing has been received, the correspondence and post has been framed as a word of warning to fledging emcees and Hip Hop talents promised prizes in sponsored competitions. No legal actions have yet been taken.
