It’s been over four years since Kendrick Lamar unleashed his Pulitzer Prize-winning album DAMN.and fans have been salivating at the thought of a follow-up ever since. While there have been some tell-tale signs the Top Dawg Entertainment golden child has been hard at work on his next effort, the TDE team has been tight-lipped when it comes to a release date.

But on Wednesday (April 28), TDE put Kendrick Lamar album chatter into overdrive with a tweet that read, “THE WAIT IS OVAH!!!! #TDE.” The post came with an animated GIF of what looks like a computer booting up and the date “5/7/21” at the end.

Of course, the cryptic tweet could mean a myriad of things — an album from REASON, a video from K. Dot or something from Jay Rock — but the only major project TDE fans have been waiting on is the Kendrick album. After all, it’s been almost eight months since Kendrick was spotted hovering over the Pacific Ocean as he filmed what was presumably a music video.

Thundercat Confirms He Contributed To Kendrick Lamar's New Album

Just one day prior, K. Dot was photographed roaming around Los Angeles on what looked like another video set. Whatever TDE has up its proverbial sleeve, the announcement has Twitter talking. Kendrick quickly became a trending topic after the post was fired off, with many debating what artist on the TDE roster could possibly be dropping something. One thing’s certain — people are going to be incensed if it’s not the DAMN. successor.
