After simply stating that he was in New Jersey with family during the post-Thanksgiving stabbing murder [click here for story] of Shamel McKinney at New York City club Duvet, Fabolous has again stated his innocence. In a recent interview with The New York Daily News, the Brooklyn rapper said, “Most of the people that are around me work in
association with what I do in the music business. I don’t
have any hangers-on. I can’t really afford them.“
Reports have come that the late McKinney was an aspiring rapper (as “Money Mel“) who sold his CDs hand-to-hand amidst his affiliation with Faboulous‘ Street Fam crew. The Def Jam rapper also responding to these reports, saying, “When you hear stuff happened to bad guys,
you’re like, ‘Okay, yeah, it was coming to them.’ Shamel‘s not that
kind of person. I was waiting to hear more of the story.
Unfortunately, when I heard the story, I ended up being in it.”
In proclaiming his innocence from reports that he was at Duvet earlier that night, Fabolous indicated that the only time he left the New Jersey family residence was to purchase eggnog. Though statements were made declaring Street Fam‘s innocence as a collective of rappers, in regards to alleged robberies in New York, Fabolous said nothing about McKinney‘s rumored criminal activity.
Fab‘s most recent album, From Nothin’ to Somethin’ featured his Street Fam artist Paul Cain on the bonus song “This is Family.” A suspect, Anthony Taylor, has been apprehended by police for the murder, and faces second-degree murder charges.
