Detroit, MI – J. Cole’s recently revisited NBA dream could seemingly become a reality if all goes well.
On Monday (August 3), the Detroit Pistons (who are currently outside of the 2020 NBA Bubble) openly invited the Dreamville MC to tryout for the team and even mocked up a jersey in his honor.
“@JColeNC we see you out here,” the official team account tweeted to its nearly one million-strong following. “You said they only got 12 slots on the Pistons. Hit us up for that tryout. This is for all the dreamers @bleacherreport #Dreamville

The Pistons were building off the momentum spurned from Master P’s revelation Cole may be seriously training to get picked up.
As for the “Pistons” quote, the team is referencing can be found on the song “FRIENDS” from the 2018 HipHopDX Album of the Year, KOD, where the North Carolina native raps, “Blame it on Trump shit, blame it on Clinton/Blame it on trap music and the politicians/Or the fact that every black boy wanna be Pippen/But they only got twelve slots on the Pistons.”
At 35 years old, it’s yet to be seen to the state of his conditioning but the desire has been put out into the open. In July, Cole penned a detailed article outlining the fork in the road he faced when deciding to choose Hip Hop over hooping.
The viral autobiography clip set the stage for the announcement of his basketball sneaker collaboration with PUMA, the RS-Dreamer.
Cole has yet to respond to the Pistons’ open invitation as of press time. Maybe he’s waiting on Michael Jordan and the Charlotte Hornets?
