Mixtape DJ’s just get no respect, right? Wrong. Pioneered by Just-O, the Mixtape Awards are now in their sixth year, and this year’s edition will be held December 11 in New York City.
Ballots are sent to people at music publications and industry folk, and fans can vote on-line at www.mixtapesaward.com. Categories include best mixtape DJ, best new mixtape DJ, best hip-hop, R & B, and reggae mixtapes, and best blend.
The show will take place at a location yet to be announced, but performers will include DJ Clue, Funkmaster Flex, Tony Touch and Kid Capri. The awards will be hosted by the legendary DJ Red Alert. The winners will be chosen from mixtape DJ’s in New York, Philadelphia, Miami, Houston, Atlanta and Chicago.
