After weathering the storn that was the Hot Ghetto Mess controversy, Another BET show, the D.L. Hughley
hosted SOB (Socially Offensive Behavior)
is the target of a Ft. Worth, Texas boycott.
Reverend Kyev Tatum
is urging those in the area to boycott the show, not because of offensive
content, but due to remarks Hughley made about the women’s basketball team at Rutgers University in May.
While appearing on The
Tonight Showwith Jay Leno, Hughley was asked about the infamous “nappy headed ho” remark Imus made about
the team. Hughley said he didn’t
think the women were hoes, but did say they were “nappy headed.”
He also said the women were some of the ugliest he’s ever
seen, a comment which drew laughter from the crowd.

Hughley defended
his Tonight Show statements and his
style of comedy in a recent interview with Sister 2 Sister magazine, which
prompted this response from Tatum

“My name is the
Rev. Kyev Tatum and I am the Pastor who called for the boycott of Mr. DL
Hughley’s show in Fort Worth, Texas. As usual, Mr. Hughley is still missing our
point of contention.
What Mr. Hughley fails
to understand is he has the right to say whatever he wants to say.
However, we simply
have the right to boycott his shows and do not pay for his style of comedy.
Richard Pryor got it; Red Foxx got it, but this generation of black comedians
feels the world owns them something when it should be the other way around.

The young women from
Rutgers University were innocent victims of his warped sense of humor. They did
not deserve to be mistreated and he should apology.
Dr. Martin Luther
King, Jr. reminded us in his last message before his death that the great
weapon to an oppressed people is the power of protest. Our black women are
abused and harmed by theses kinds of remarks coming from black people in our
own community.
Mr. Hughley will not
understand that “responsible free speech” is much more important than
just saying what you feel is funny. Ever went into a building and shouted
“FIRE”? No, because it is not responsible free speech.
Our prayer is that God
will touch his heart and he realizes his responsibility to honor our black
women and our black community.

The number one issue
affecting our young black women is low self-esteem. Mr. Hughley should stop
with the humiliation and the degrading of our black women for dollars.
Mark my word; it will
be his downfall in the end. The Bible is still right, ‘God will not be mocked,
whatsoever a man sows, that he shall also reap.’ My brother, Rev. A.I Tatum
says it this way, ‘It will come back much later and it will come back much
greater.
