The terrorists who perpetrated the September 11 attacks have claimed another victim: The Blockbuster Awards. The video rental giant has hosted an awards event honouring excellence in movies and music for seven years, but this year’s show has been canceled.

A company spokesperson cited uncertain viewing habits in the wake of the September 11 attacks as the reason for the cancellation. The Emmy awards, which honour tv excellence, were postponed twice before being held seven weeks late after the attacks. The Latin Grammy Awards were also postponed before being reduced to nothing more than a press conference.

The Blockbuster Awards were to have taken place in April or May 2002 and would have aired on Fox.
