The Neptunes are back — sort of.

Netflix and Epic Records have just unveiled “Letter To My Godfather,” a track written by Pharrell and his Neptunes partner Chad Hugo. The song is featured in the Netflix Original Documentary The Black Godfather.

Written and directed by Academy Award nominee Reginald Hudlin, The Black Godfather documents the “exceptional and unlikely rise” of trailblazing music executive Clarence Avant, who influenced icons such as Bill Withers, Quincy Jones, Muhammad Ali, Hank Aaron and Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.

Producer Nicole Avant, who’s also the daughter of Clarence, showed the film to Pharrell who was instantly inspired by Clarence’s “pursuit of excellence for others.” According to the press release, Pharrell began writing “Letter To My Godfather” the same evening.

“Clarence Avant connects us all through his incredible impact since before I was born up until now,” Pharrell said. “He’s the godfather to so many of us — and not just African Americans, most of the industry.”

The Black Godfather is available now globally on Netflix and in select theaters.
