The Jussie Smollett case took an unexpected turn on Tuesday morning (March 26) when prosecutors dropped all charges against the Empire actor.

Earlier this month, Smollett was indicted on 16 felony charges for allegedly filing a false police report, claiming he’d been a victim of a hate crime. He alleged two men put a noose around his neck, poured bleach on him and shouted racial and homophobic slurs while kicking and punching him.

As investigators dissected Smollett’s account of what happened, they determined he’d stage the entire thing.

Smollett pleaded not guilty and has maintained his innocence — but Twitter isn’t so sure.

Shortly after the news broke, countless people headed to the popular social media platform to berate not only Smollett but also the Chicago Police Department.

Some were outraged a seemingly guilty person got away with such a heinous lie while others felt the justice system – once again – failed. Like many others, Michael Rapaport (of course) had jokes.

Check out some of the reactions below.
