Aftershocks following the Gucci blackface backlash are still being felt now that T.I. has gotten wind of the controversy.
The Trouble Man has taken it upon himself to launch a crusade against luxury fashion brands with racist overtones and not only called out Gucci but Prada and Moncler for various pieces that depict African American caricatures.
“As a 7 figure/yr customer & long time supporter of your brand I must say…Y’all GOT US fucked UP!!!” T.I. bellowed on Instagram. APOLOGY NOT ACCEPTED!!!! We ain’t going for this “oops my bad I didn’t mean to be racist and disrespectful towards your people” shit!!! Y’all knew wtf y’all was doin and WE AINT GOING FOR IT!!! We ALL GOTTA Stop buying, wearing, and supporting this piece of shit company And ALL PIECE OF SHIT COMPANIES UNTIL THEY LEARN TO RESPECT OUR DOLLARS & VALUE OUR BUSINESS!!!! But the vocal rap star didn’t end with dragging Gucci’s name in the bargain bin. He called out both Prada and Moncler for similar themed Jim Crow drip.
On Wednesday (February 6), Gucci issued an apology after an $890 sweater that was overwhelmingly perceived to resemble a person in blackface.
Spike Lee and Soulja Boy (who has now vowed to rock Fendi in favor of his Gucci headband he popularized on The Breakfast Club) also joined the boycott, amongst thousands who felt like the mea culpa simply wasn’t good enough.
