Freeway checked in to a Baltimore hospital for surgery on Tuesday morning (February 5) to undergo a long awaited kidney transplant. In a statement to HipHopDX, the Philly rapper’s manager, Sherman Byers, provided an update.

“It gives me great pleasure to announce Freeway’s surgery was a success,” his manager said. “He is now in recovery. He thanks you all for your prayers!!”

Freeway echoed Byers’ sentiments in an Instagram post he shared shortly after the procedure.

The Roc Nation signee was in good spirits prior to the surgery as well.

Philly Freeway checked into a Baltimore hospital on Tuesday morning (February 5) to undergo a kidney transplant. Judging by his recent Instagram post, Freeway was in good spirits before going into surgery and had the medical team laughing, saying the only thing he was allergic to was “haters.”

“It’s been a minute, but they’re about to take me in,” he says in the clip. “Pray for me man. God willing, this surgery goes good. See y’all in six hours. Pray for your boy.”

He added in the caption, “I’m going under now! Thanks for all the Love & support! Pray for me.”

Freeway was diagnosed with kidney failure several years ago. Last month, Freeway revealed he’d found a surgeon to perform the transplant and was inching closer to finally having the procedure.
