Da Brat was reportedly cut some slack in court this week. According to legal documents obtained by The Blast, a judge determined the Hip Hop vet wouldn’t have to serve any time in jail for breaking a champagne bottle over ex-NFL cheerleader Shayla Stevens’ head.

The So So Def artist argued that because she filed for bankruptcy in August, jail would prevent her from earning the money to settle the case.

Stevens and her legal team were attempting to have Da Brat found in contempt of court for not coughing up the $6.4 million she owes and missing a scheduled court date. Da Brat was under the impression filing for bankruptcy offered protection from current debts and active collection efforts.

Evidently, the judge agreed.

The bottle-breaking incident occurred at an Atlanta nightclub back in 2007. As a result of the attack, Stevens suffered permanent facial scarring and neurological impairment. Da Brat spent three years in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated assault.

In addition to the $6.4 million, Da Brat reportedly owes $1,255,128 to Sony Music, $12,000 to Ally Bank, $2,284 in credit card debt, and $2,284 owed to the Georgia Department of Revenue as well as an unknown amount to the IRS.

That means Da Brat is swimming in roughly $7.7 million in debt. [apple_news_ad type=”any”]
