Miami, FL – Vic Mensa has issued an apology after an XXXTENTACION diss he recorded aired at the October 6 taping of the 2018 BET Hip Hop Awards.

In his pre-recorded cypher, the outspoken rapper condemned Hip Hop artists accused of domestic violence such as the late XXXTENTACION, whose mother was in attendance to accept the Best New Artist Award on his behalf.

“Recently, I did a freestyle for the BET [Hip Hop] Awards cypher addressing and condemning rappers who unabashedly abuse women and those who stand up for them and even call them legends,” Vic said in his apology video. “I stand behind those statements. It was pre-recorded weeks ago, and I had no idea a grieving mother would be in the audience to honor her lost son. I never intended to disrespect her, and I offer my deepest condolences for her loss at the hands of gun violence.

“However, I vehemently reject the trend in Hip Hop of championing abusers, and I will not hold my tongue about it. I don’t give a fuck about getting attention. I care about bringing awareness and holding people accountable for their actions.

In the Instagram caption, he added, “Protect women. Domestic & sexual abuse are not excusable because you have talent or you are troubled. With that said I was not aware his mother would be in attendance & I offer her my deepest condolences.”

Word of Vic’s diss was first made public on Saturday by DJ Scheme, a longtime associate of XXXTENTACION. He aired out Vic via Twitter.

“When y’all hear Vic Mensas fucking freestyle at the BET awards y’all are going to be fucking disgusted,” he wrote. “@VicMensa SUCK MY DICK.”

The apology didn’t change Scheme’s feelings at all.

“Vic Mensa is the most pussy bitch in the rap game fam,” he wrote shortly after the video was posted. “I never seen someone so fucking bitch made. Anyone who side with that fuck ass hoe can see me PERSONALLY.”

Fans will get to hear Vic’s cypher when the 2018 BET Hip Hop Awards air on October 16.
