Monday 12/4: Reports came in today that an entrepreneur is trying to corner the market on urban social networking with a website called blocksavvy. Backed by Damon Dash , the site combines the personal profiling of myspace with the virtual spaces of secondlife.com. Registered users can build a personal profile, decide where they want to live and do whatever they wish with $5,000 in virtual currency, called “savvydollars.” Theere will be an e-commerce portion of the site (that is still being figured out). Dash and the sites creator say this site will be different because it was created with brands, sponsorships, and advertisers in mind.
Tuesday 12/5: Guerilla Words is a monthly open mic occurring once and month in New York City. The theme of tonight’s open mic was stopping police brutality, in memory of Sean Bell, the young man who was slain on his wedding day. For those who may not be able to attend in person, Guerilla words is also a radio program, airing Sunday nights from 7-10 via radio and webcast. Wednesday 12/6: The 80s Bronx Hip-Hop group the Ultramagnetic MCs have confirmed that they have reunited. The group consists of Kool Keith, Ced Gee, Moe Luv and TR Luv. Their latest album entitled “The Best Kept Secret,” will be released January 6.
Thursday 12/7: Justo’s 2006 Mixtape Awards was halfway held at the Apollo theatre. It was poorly organized and shut down early because of several fights. The last straw was when G-Unit affiliates tried to rush the doors in the front.
Friday 12/8: DJ Carl Blaze from New York’s Power 105.1 was shot early Thursday morning after leaving the club. He is currently being treated and has reportedly lost an enormous amount of blood. No further information on the shooting is available but DJ Carl Blaze is expected to live.
