RCA records, home of artists such as SWV’s Coko, Tyrese and Cherokee has determined to close down it’s urban music division last month, blaming the closure due to the lack of cash the department made from it’s roster. This will be a big blow to all the artists on the label, especially with Coko, who had been working on her sophomore solo album. On the other hand, it seems that one former employee of the label has already managed to get signed.
Clive Davis’ J Records has already snapped up the signature of Tyrese to add to their ever-growing list of artists. Tyrese blames the closure of the label on the staff who worked at the label, stating that if RCA were ever to start up their urban division again, they would need a better team to keep everything under order.
