Kim Osorio, former editor-in-chief of The Source magazine,
has won a major victory. She walked out of the Manhattan district court
yesterday with $15.5 million, ending the nine-day trial.
Osorio was ousted from The Source in 2005 for what Dave Mays
and Raymond “Benzino” Scott, the magazine’s founders said was poor
performance. The trial initially began on Oct. 11. Osorio and Michelle
Joyce, vice president of marketing filed a joint complaint accusing
Mays and Benzino of gender discrimination, sexual harassment and
unlawful retaliation against women who worked for the company.
Mays and Benzino maintained their innocence, but the jury
thought otherwise. The six men and two women that made up the jury took
two hours to deliberate, rendering Osorio victorious. She was awarded
$4 million for retaliation from The Source, $4 million for retaliation from Mays, $4 million for retaliation from Benzino and $3.5million for defamation from Benzino.
