Movie fans are finally getting their first glimpse at the RZA-directed film, Love Beats Rhymes. A trailer for the film, which is due out December 1, was uploaded to YouTube this week.

Love Beats Rhymes stars controversial Harlem musician Azealia Banks, and also features appearances from Jill Scott, Method Man, and Common.

“All I’ve ever wanted was to be a rapper. I want people to fall in love with my words,” Banks says at the start of the trailer.

The musical drama centers on Coco, an aspiring Hip Hop artist who discovers the world of slam poetry while also attempting to balance school and music.

“This is my first film, my first leading role,” Banks said in a recent Instagram caption. “I worked hard on this and am excited to see what doors open after this.

The film was first announced in 2015, then in 2016, the relationship between RZA and Banks took a rocky turn following Banks’s claims that she was choked by actor Russell Crowe at a hotel party she attended as a guest of RZA’s.

RZA later stated that he should have kept a better eye on Banks during the party and that he was unaware of her “mental issues.”
