What’s good my fellow purveyors and supporters of Hip-Hop? You already know that like New York City, Hip-Hop doesn’t sleep. I’m going to bring you Hip-Hop’s events for the previous week, every week. Nationally, internationally, local, it really doesn’t matter. This week’s information is stateside (Where are my international heads at? Get at me!), mostly in NYC. Check it…
Sunday 9/17 – Here is yet another recap of the hilarious disaster we call Flavor of Love Season 2. Now that New York is back, of course the eminent drama just got magnified times 50. New York is using Krazy as her pawn to get rid of the competition. Buckeey got booted this week for what had the potential to be a disaster. She and Krazy got into a bitching match that turned into shoving. Buckeey, being the stronger one shoved Krazy so hard that she toppled backward, not once but twice. She happened to be near a balcony one of those times. She’s obviously still alive but New York exaggeratedly snitched on Buckey to Flav, saying that she was “afraid for Krazy’s life.” Sidebar: New York, no you weren’t. But anyway, Buckeey got the boot.
Monday 9/18 – S.O.B.’s Urban Concerts and Krucial Keys Ent. Presented Krucial featuring Illz. They performed tracks from their new EP, Take Da Hood Back. The event was hosted by Power 105.1’s Deja Vu and DJ Evil Dee was definitely on the mix, working the turntables. DJ I-Roc also got down.
Tuesday 9/19 – Lupe Fiasco’s highly anticipated, twice leaked debut album dropped today. So far it’s been pegged a classic by various critics, Hiphopdx.com included. I haven’t heard it in it’s entirety yet but I do know that “Sunshine” is my song. Pssst…I have a confession. I heard one of the leaked versions. But um yeah…back to “Sunshine”if any Lupe A & R people read this, what’s good for a single? I think “Sunshine” is the way to go.

In other Lupe related news, he had a myspace secret show in Chicago at the Metro/Smart Bar. I obviously wasn’t there but I do know how Lupe gets down (or lack thereof) live. How was it? I’d like to know.
Wednesday 9/20 – Tonight was laid-back and dope. A few of the Hiphopdx.com editors and writers including myself, Andreas Hale, Jeff Ryce, Solange Durand and Tommy C. met up at Justin’s and kicked it. We talked s**t about everyone and everything. Mainly you, and how your favorite rappers probably suck.

Thursday 9/21 – There was an NBA 2K7 game release party/celebrity charity video game challenge. It was hosted by Shaq who played against and got whooped by Nate Robinson. Other competitors in the game competition were Channing Frye, Phife Dog, and Quentin Richardson. Celebrities in attendance but not necessarily in the game challenge were Mos Def, Clinton Sparks, Consequence, Mad Linx, Sadat X, Rhymefest, who performed a single from the game, and Dan the Automator, who stepped on my foot very hard without an apology. Thanks a lot you prick. You scuffed left my Nike Dunk (a sin in the sneaker head world). But I digress…
The charity part of the event resulted in a $5,000 being donated to Kaboom, an organization dedicated to the preservation of New York City parks.
Friday 9/22 – Hip-Hop showed that it cares as Friday leads us to another charity event. Eternia, Pumpkinhead, Life Long, Tiye Phoenix and Lil’ Sci Scienz of Life Ace of Spades performed at Ace of Spades (NYC). Proceeds were donated to Girls for Gender Equality, and organization geared toward improving physical, psychological, social and economic development of girls and young women. It’s about time I heard some female-friendly Hip-Hop news. I know you are out there, ladies. But the question is where are you hiding?

Also happening today was Nicolay’s album release party in Wilmington, NC at a club called Bella Festa. Thanks again to my homie Edgar Allen Floe who attended. Here is what he told me:
For those that don’t know, Nicolay is the production half of The Foreign Exchange with Phonte of Little Brother as the emcee half. He was celebrating the release of his new solo project entitled, Here.
I have known Nicolay and his production for a long time but I had never met him in person so, I really wanted to check him out. When I got there his manager, Aimee Flintberg directed me to him and I finally got to say “what up.” He played all of the joints that he produced from artists like Little Brother and The Foreign Exchange, to Supastition and joints from his new album. And, he even let the crowd know I was in the building so, I ended up meeting some of my fans, signed some autographs and took some pictures. Meeting fans definitely keeps me going.
I talked to him after the show and he told me how much he loves my joint “The Righteous Way To Go.” We definitely have a mutual respect for each other and we got to build so you will eventually hear some new tracks by E.A. Floe and Nicolay. I’m sending him some acapellas of my joints to remix so be on the lookout…

Overall, I had a nice time. Congrats to Nicolay for his new album. “My Story,” with Kay and Sy Smith is my s**t!
Saturday 9/23 – You may have seen Queen GodIs in everybody’s myspace top 8. I know I have, just about. Well, she had her album release party at the Bowery Poetry club, performing joints from her debut album, Power U. Opening up for the singer and spoken word poet was Eviction Notice, a Hip-Hop/Rock band. They warmed up the crowd really well with a versatile mix of everything from Nirvana to A Tribe Called Quest, and of course, their own music too. The star of the show definitely rocked the crowd. This was my first time seeing her live but her reputation preceded her and rightfully so. Even sweeter, her siblings helped her out with the vocals. Queen GodIs definitely lives up to her name.

In other Hip-Hop-releated news, Hip-Hop’s self-described Nerdy Black Homiesexual Hip-Hop group, Deep Dickollective performed at PeaceOUT, the 6th Annual World Homohop Festival in San Francisco. Today was the kick off of the two-day festival. This is a side of Hip-Hop that I find people are very uncomfortable talking about. Somebody had to mention it. But for real though, I think people need to get over their hang-ups. Besides, I checked out their music and it’s pretty good. Thanks for the tid bit Juba Kalamka.
Myspace.com/deepdickollective – No hating please!
