Ethan Weisman is by now the most popular 13-year-old in Michigan. “Kids I don’t even know are coming up to me and saying ‘I heard you had D12 at your bar mitzvah’,” he said.
That’s right. D12, Detroit’s bad boy rap crew, paid a visit to a fan’s bar mitzvah, because the friend that his parents hired to DJ the event also happened to be friends with D12. That mutual friend was Jon Layne, head of Motown record label Intuit-Solar, who regularly DJ’s at bar mitzvahs, the Jewish coming-of-age event for boys.
Layne invited his friends D12 to the event as a present for the son of his friends the Weismans. The group apparently posed for pictures with attendees and signed autographs. They were paid an undisclosed amount of money to appear at the party, in West Bloomfield, MI.
