Langley, WA

Ben Haggerty, better known as Macklemore, was reportedly involved in a head-on collision in Langley, Washington, a remote island 90 minutes north of Seattle. Around 11 p.m. PST on Friday (July 28), a drunk driver in a pickup truck slammed into the Washington native’s Mercedes after rounding a bend and crossing into oncoming traffic.

According to police, the drunk driver wasn’t wearing a seat belt and his head smashed into the windshield on impact. He was bleeding and unconscious, but evidently by the time the cops arrived he was able to answer their questions. As stated in the police report, the man told the officers he had a drink “awhile back” and when pressed for a more specific time, he replied with, “5 o’clock.”

The “Thrift Shop” rapper had two passengers with him. One person was treated for a minor cut on their head, but all three walked away relatively unscathed from the accident. The drunk driver was taken to a hospital and Washington State Police are charging him with a DUI.

HipHopDX reached out to Macklemore and his manager for comment, but they have yet to respond.

Macklemore just released a new single with Lil Yachty titled “Marmalade” and a video for “Glorious” as he puts the final touches on his forthcoming solo album. He and his main musical partner Ryan Lewis announced an indefinite hiatus last month.

“After the last tour, Ryan and I agreed that some creative space would be good for the both of us,” Mack wrote in the caption of a since-deleted Instagram post. “Ryan Lewis is my brother forever. We have been working together damn near every day for 9 years and it felt like the right time. This decision came from a place of love for one another.”

In the meantime, he’s apparently also found a newfound passion for fidget spinners. Check out the Instagram video of him getting down to “Planet Rock” below.
