Despite the violent XXXTENTACION show in San Diego last Wednesday (June 7) and subsequent media frenzy that stemmed from X’s onstage knockout, the controversial Florida rapper’s Revenge mixtape still took a significant dive on the Billboard 200 chart. Released on May 16, the 8-track project peaked at #44 in its debut week, but sank to #76 for the week ending on June 8.
Lil Yachty’s Teenage Emotions, which pulled surprisingly low numbers in its debut week, plummeted from #5 to #29, marking another significant drop.
Gucci Mane’s DropTopWop also dipped 52 percent, moving from #12 to #32, and Bryson Tiller’s True To Self, which debuted at #1, was down 73 percent and landed in the #13 spot.
As expected, Kendrick Lamar’s celebrated album, DAMN., and Drake’s More Life have managed to hang tough in the #2 and #6 spots (respectively), but both saw dips in their sales.
XXXTENTACION’S Knockout Does Nothing For His Album Sales
Although the well-documented punch got XXXTENTACION plenty of attention, it wasn’t enough to move the needle on his sales (at least not yet). His Revenge project fell 23 spots and hit #76. With 11,678,151 streams and only 476 albums sold, he was unable to beat K.Dot’s 2012 sophomore effort, good kid, m.A.A.d city, which managed to clock in at 10,399,530 streams five years after its initial release.
Lil Yachty Likely All Up In His Emotions
With Teenage Emotions’ less-than-spectacular #5 debut, Lil Yachty felt he had to address his fans on social media to explain his stats and said people just “don’t understand him.” Apparently, more people are failing to understand him this week and sales took another decline, earning the red-haired rapper the #29 spot. The album was streamed 17,253,978 times compared to last week’s number of 35,352,251.
DAMN. — Kendrick Lamar & Drake Still Riding The Top 10 Wave
After weeks in the Top 10, Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. and Drake’s More Life have continued their triumphant performances. DAMN. held steady at #2 with 16,624 pure album sales and 72,903,760 streams, marking a 14 percent decline from the previous week. Drake’s More Life, which has been on the Billboard 200 chart for the past 12 weeks, maintained its spot in the Top 10 and landed at #6 with 54,851,557 album streams.
Bryson Tiller Remains True To Self But Takes Substantial Dip
Bryson Tiller restored three community basketball courts in his home town of Louisville last week, a gesture that follows the release of his latest project, True To Self, which was unveiled May 25 much to the surprise of his fans, who weren’t expecting the album to arrive until June 23. Although True To Self earned him his first #1 album, it has now slipped 12 spots to land at #13 in its second week. With 36,241,015 streams and 3,753 pure album sales, it took a substantial 73 percent dip.

Rap is in such a bad state and these rappers show that opinion is becoming a fact. Currently Rap is in a #$%#^ bad state.
translation: waaaah! waaaah! my favorite old washed up rappers aren’t selling anymore because i stopped supporting them and stopped buying their albums. i’m still stuck in the 90s and can’t adapt to 2017. i’m jealous of the new wave of rappers who bring new, unique styles to hip hop, helping keep the genre alive. real hip hop forever.
