A variety of the late J. Dilla‘s beats have quietly appeared on Apple Music, Spotify, and TIDAL this week, in the form of Jay Dee’s Ma Dukes Collection.
Not much information about the melting pot of beats has emerged except that it was released by Yancey Media Group LLC / Official Ma Dukes / VINTAGE VIBEZ MUSIC GROUP.
The 15 songs on the beat playlist are only being referred to as random numbers in place of track titles and run no more than three minutes each. By the title of the project, it can be assumed that Dilla’s mom Maureen “Ma Dukes” Yancey picked out the the beats, especially since she had a hand in its distribution.
The legendary Detroit beatmaker, born James Dewitt Yancey, passed away at the age of 32 and has left his legacy throughout all of Hip Hop. The Shining, Jay Stay Paid and The Diary are among the few posthumous projects that have been released under his name, including the October drop Jay Dee aka King Dilla.
