Up from the underground, one of the pioneers of the Bay’s Quannum Projects sound is going to major on his next release, the still-unttled project will be released under the Universal imprint.

After years of constant touring and minimal releases of well-respected instrumentals, mixtapes and DVD’s, Shadow will follow up his 2002 release The Private Press.

The first track scheduled to be released from the would-be album features the Bay Area’s own, Keak da Sneak and the grizzled Turf Talk on the space-crunk odyssey, 3 Freaks

Shadow has told the press that he’s relieved to finally have a home and claims the album is one of the most fun things he’s ever worked on. It marks Shadows’ first attempt on working with guests lyricists, including Q-Tip and David Banner.

To start the hype early, Shadow will be playing his first set of live shows in three and a half years. The first show is a benefit for the Art Director responsible for most of Shadows art, Keith Tamashiro who suffered a brain aneurysm earlier this year. Shadow and turn-table veteran Cut Chemist will partner for a one-time only collaboration on their “infamous Brainfreeze set” (as Shadows own website describes it – djshadow.com).

The benefit is set for May 25 at the Mayan Nightclub and 100 percent of the proceeds will go to helping Keith and his family pay their bills.

The price of the ticket is a steep $100. Also scheduled to appear are Jurassic 5, Dilated Peoples, Supernat, The Beat Junkies, Madlib, Money Mark and the elusive MF DOOM.
