Q-Tip, who now calls himself Kamaal, has chosen to wait until sometime in 2002 to release his second solo album, called Kamaal the Abstract.

The album was originally scheduled for an October 23 release, but Kamaal wants to put together a short film to accompany the album’s release. He is said to be in talks with several big-name directors, but nothing has been announced as of yet.

Kamaal the Abstract is a nine-song LP that features Kamaal rapping and singing over jazz tracks, and features a number of modern jazz musicians. It is a different direction for the rapper, whose debut solo effort Amplified was universally dissed for being too jiggy. Tip starred with A Tribe Called Quest for a decade before turning solo.
