Kendrick Lamar & Snoop Dogg Featured In “Noisey: Bompton” Documentary

Kendrick Lamar is featured in Noisey: Bompton, a documentary about his hometown of Compton, California. The film is set to air on Vice’s new channel, Viceland, February 29 at 10 p.m.

The preview for the show opens with Snoop Dogg explaining why Bompton is important to the Hip Hop scene and should be showcased by the filmmakers.

“If I was you and I had a camera right now, where I would go is a little city called Bompton,” the Long Beach, California rapper says. “It’s Compton, but it’s where the Bloods is at. Because they put a B in front of everything, so it’s Bompton. And the reason why I would go there is because they are number one in the Rap world right now.”

Lamar is interviewed along with members of the Blood Gang, including Lil L, Lamar’s childhood friend. The Grammy Award-winning rapper details why his music comes from the perspective of someone outside of gang culture.

“From Compton, I could’ve easily came out and said, ‘I did this, I did that, I killed a whole bunch of niggas,’ just given the fact where I’m from,” Lamar says. “That ain’t me. I’d rather talk about my reality. I’d rather talk about something a little bit more deeper than that. The reasons and the problems and the solutions behind it. So when you hear these stories in good kid M.A.A.D city, when you hear these stories in To Pimp a Butterfly, it’s a little bit deeper than just the music. It’s cats out here really trying to do something and really trying to spark the idea of positivity in the community. Let me tell my story, let me tell the other stories that’s out here that want to do something different, but can’t because you in an environment where you just got to adapt and what happens is, it invites people in to get another perspective. It brings a whole another side of the world to Compton, to this backyard right here and say, ‘OK, these are actually people.'”

Lamar received the key to the city of Compton earlier this month.

The show is the first installment of an eight-part series that will feature the music scene in eight different cities.

    1. Kendrick got more goons than your favorite so called “street” rapper, i know for a fact hes connected from Chi-raq goons to Compton.

    2. Much respect to this man. Kendrick music is powerful, but at least theres a story behind his music. Most these other rappers talk about shit that theyve seen others do, but claim they do it. Respect this dude where its deserved. I aint see futures homo lookin ass get no key or grammy

      1. Future’s homo looking ass? The nigga got like three or four kids and Kendrick got none. What you gotta say to that? #DrakeIsLoveDrakeIsLife

    3. Compton is a dump. Noisey better come to the 6ix and see why it’s one of the best cities ever in existence. #DrakeIsLoveDrakeIsLife
