This past week Common announced that he will be issuing a new DVD to the Hip Hop masses. Common‘s critically acclaimed latest disc BE holds as a plethora of styles through production and lyrics. Common plans to release the song off the disc entitled “Testify” on DVD. The mini movie was directed by Bill Duke and stars Steve and Wood Harris and Common himself.
“Testify” is a track about a street oriented couple where the male party is eventually faced with a trial in court due to his illegal activity. By the end of the track it is evident that throughout the trial the female party in the relationship is one who is responsible for the trial as well as the its outcome. Her man is eventually convicted of crimes that she was the mastermind of.
About the project, Common says, “I had to be the character and the narrator of the film based on what’s in the song. I felt like I was surrounded by some great actors.
