Cait O’Riordan, VP of Product for Shazam, spoke for her company and its utility at “Strata+Hadoop World London 2015” Wednesday (May 6).

Shazam can spot a #1 Billboard song 33 days in advance, according to O’Riordan. The firm can track regional growth over a period of time, giving them an idea of what will top the charts a month later.

Shazam can also see what parts of the record get searched the most, which offers a qualitative devise for answering questions of who has “the best” verse. Nicki Minaj beat out Kanye West and Jay Z for the best “Monster” verse, according Shazam’s big data.

And it is big data — the app has 100 million users. Shazamers are clicking that blue button 20 million times a day.
